To walk implies a Decision, Determination, and a Destination. Today let us consider the second of these 3 D’s.
Anyone can start walking, but it takes determination to keep going in spite of unknowns and challenges which arise along the way. When it seems easier to remain where one is rather than pressing on, it takes a determined focus that pressing on will be worth the extra effort.
As Paul considered the past and looked toward the future he declared. . .
“(13) Brothers, I do not consider that I have made it my own. But one thing I do: forgetting what lies behind and straining forward to what lies ahead, (14) I press on toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus.” (Philippians 3:13-14 ESV)
Sometimes continuing to move forward takes “straining.” Sometimes it takes a singular focus — as Paul said, “one thing I do” — so as to not become distracted or discouraged by what may be going on around us. We must continue to nurture a will for pressing on. Like a marathon runner whose body begins to urge them to quit, there needs to be the determination to press on to the finish.
In his letter to Christians going through trying times, the writer of Hebrews exhorted. . .
“(11) And we desire each one of you to show the same earnestness to have the full assurance of hope until the end, (12) so that you may not be sluggish, but imitators of those who through faith and patience inherit the promises.” (Hebrews 6:11-12 ESV)
Let us remain focused on the hope that is ours in Christ as we put forth whatever effort is needed to keep pressing on. Let us also encourage one another as the journey continues. May our determination through each day be seen as bringing us closer to our eternal goal.
Have a great day PRESSING ON IN PATIENT FAITH!
Carl
