I love looking at the water whether it is calm or stormy. Our town is situated on a peninsula where we are surrounded on three sides by water, and we also have a wonderful view of two mountain ranges (Cascades and Olympics). When I look into water that is calm, what intrigues me most is when I’m able to see the clear reflection of trees, a mountain, the clouds in the sky, or houses and buildings on a hill.
A number of years ago, while hiking in the Olympic Mountains of Washington State, I took a picture across a lake to capture the perfect straight-line image of a tree and its reflection in the water. It is one of the pictures we still have on our living room wall. I have also taken pictures of images in mud puddles, and have admired the pictures others have taken which captured the perspective of reflections well. If there are ripples on the water, the reflection may appear a little fuzzy, but the water reflects the image that is there. It can be no other way. It cannot reflect what is not present.
Solomon stated. . .
“(19) As in water face reflects face, so the heart of man reflects the man.” (Proverbs 27:19 ESV)
When life is calm it is easy to put up a good front. However, though it is calm waters that provide the clearest reflection, it is when life gets stormy that our true character generally is revealed. Is the same “me” or “you” reflected in calm as in storm? Seeking to retain a good heart for God and His Will is what will help us reflect the same regardless of circumstances or situation in life.
Is the character or essence of our heart and life a good reflection of the image God is renewing within us? It is Hs glory that is to be reflected in our life. (2 Corinthians 3:18) May the reflection of a good heart and good life be evident of God’s sovereignty in our life that we may continue true to Him whether life around us be calm or stormy!
Have a great day REFLECTING A GODLY HEART!
