Time passes and perhaps we wonder if what was stated has been forgotten. Time passes and perhaps we think we may have missed it. Time passes and perhaps questioning begins with regard to the validity of held expectations.
In our human interaction, due to the lack of follow-through on the part of some individuals or the rising of unforeseen factors, such takes place. However, let us be careful of viewing what God has said in the same light. God — Who knows the end from the beginning (Isaiah 46:10) — is fully able and will fulfill all He has said He will do.
Peter stated there would come scoffers (2 Peter 3:3) with such questioning as he noted. . .
“(4) They will say, “Where is the promise of his coming? For ever since the fathers fell asleep, all things are continuing as they were from the beginning of creation.”” (2 Peter 3:4 ESV)
Has nothing changed? Has everything continued the same from the beginning of creation? Did God create us and all that is around us and done nothing since so that we are left with no reasonable expectation of what He has said will come?
First of all, let us remember God’s timing is not ours, but is rather in accordance with His Divine Wisdom and loving patience! (i.e. 2 Peter 3:9) And let us not overlook the facts of God’s Working in the past on which we can place our assurance for the future. Peter went on to note the God Who created (2 Peter 3:5) and the God Who cleansed (2 Peter 3:6) will at some point according to His timing condemn (2 Peter 3:7) the ungodly. Knowing God Who has acted will act again is to urge our patience as we presently live holy and godly lives. (2 Peter 3:11) May we therefore live with the reasonable expectation of the fulfillment of His promises and His ability to bring us safely into the eternity prepared for us who are in Christ!
Have a great day LIVING PATIENTLY PREPARED FOR WHAT GOD HAS PROMISED!
Carl
