Time! It cannot be put in a bank to draw on later like one would do with a savings account. It can’t be saved in a bottle for spending time with a loved one as Jim Croce pondered in one of his songs. Time tends to fly by quicker than one thinks to the one who in the busyness of life lets important moments slip by as noted in Harry Chapin’s “Cat’s in the Cradle”. As the idiom states, “Time and tide wait for no man.” That is the reality of life.
The thing “about time” is we may save time by doing things in a manner allowing them to be done quicker so we can go on to do other things, but we cannot save it up. We would then do well to realize how — as someone has said — “The biggest mistake we make in life is thinking we have time.” If we haven’t realized this, it is “about time” we did!
Remember James exhortation where we read. . .
“(13) Come now, you who say, “Today or tomorrow we will go into such and such a town and spend a year there and trade and make a profit” — (14) yet you do not know what tomorrow will bring. What is your life? For you are a mist that appears for a little time and then vanishes. (15) Instead you ought to say, “If the Lord wills, we will live and do this or that.”” (James 4:13-15 ESV)
Not knowing what tomorrow might bring, or even if it will come, we ought to wisely utilize time and the opportunities it provides as they come. In the process, let us not forget the most important things — especially what relates to our salvation and eternal life which is to come (note 2 Corinthians 6:1-2) — as if we think we have plenty of time to take care of them. May we trust the Will of God as we seek to glorify Him by the proper use of the time we have!
Have a great day MAKING THE MOST OF THE TIME GOD GIVES!
Carl
