I know the expression is generally “above and beyond”, however, there is a sense in which we need to look beyond what we see and above to God. That is because the tendency of humanity is to center the focus for solutions too low. With too high an estimation of self or others, reliance is often placed in unreliable or very limited places.
In one of the psalms we read. . .
“(3) Put not your trust in princes, in a son of man, in whom there is no salvation. (4) When his breath departs, he returns to the earth; on that very day his plans perish.” (Psalm 146:3-4 ESV)
Certainly, there are benefits enjoyed at the hands of others. Teachers, doctors, benefactors, even people in the world of politics, etc., have and can bring dynamic aid to this world. However, just as temporary as their existence is, so are their works; merely for this realm during their lifetime. There is only so much human effort, planning, and wisdom can accomplish.
The psalmist went on to state. . .
“(5) Blessed is he whose help is the God of Jacob, whose hope is in the Lord his God, (6) who made heaven and earth, the sea, and all that is in them, who keeps faith forever; (7) who executes justice for the oppressed, who gives food to the hungry.” (Psalm 146:5-7 ESV)
This is where the focus is to go beyond to above! Though we should feel due appreciation for any benefit others in this world provide — and even consider the benefit we ourselves with a servant heart can offer — our focus must look beyond human limitation and above to the limitless power and provision (2 Corinthians 9:8; Ephesians 3:20) of our eternal Heavenly Father! May our ultimate reliance rest in Him!
Have a great day LOOKING BEYOND THE TEMPORAL AND ABOVE TO THE ETERNAL!
