It has been said, “Whoever is trying to bring you down, is already below you.” (Ziad K. Abdelnour)
This has also been phrased, “Whoever is trying to bring you down is already beneath you.” (Habeeb Akande)
This is something we can visualize both physically and intellectually. For another to physically pull us down they would have to be physically positioned below us. However, people who would pull us down in an attempt to elevate themselves are already lower in mind than they realize. What is the positioning in our own mind in relation to others? If we think helping another is beneath us, we need to humble ourselves. It is in striving to elevate others — whether that be by boosting from where we are or extending a hand to them — we are serving a high and God glorifying role.
Writing to Christians at Philippi, Paul urged. . .
“(3) Do nothing from selfish ambition or conceit, but in humility count others more significant than yourselves. (4) Let each of you look not only to his own interests, but also to the interests of others.” (Philippians 2:3-4 ESV)
And to those at Thessalonica he exhorted. . .
“(14) And we urge you, brothers, admonish the idle, encourage the fainthearted, help the weak, be patient with them all.” (1 Thessalonians 5:14 ESV)
As we encourage and help others to move onward and upward in life, our life serves the God glorifying role of rising to the occasion of serving others! May we remain mindful of our own attitude regarding our life altitude in its connection with others!
Have a great day ENGAGED IN THE HIGH CALLING OF HELPING OTHERS!
