Where are we bound? Have we gotten on the right train? As we have settled back for the ride of life are we sure we are heading for the right station?
Someone has said, “The right train of thought can take you to a better station in life.” [source: “1600 Squibs And Quips”, compiled by E. C. McKenzie]
The world has its ideas, but where will they take us? When we compare those concepts with the ways of our Lord, we should see the world’s ways are often backwards or upside down from what He encouraged toward. Some encourage to catch the fast train since life is short and you have to grab up everything you can. Others say you ought to ride the luxury car and make sure you go through life in style. And some people may want to spend their time in a sleeper car, not caring what’s happening along the way.
What train of thought will head us toward the right station? The Jewish leaders were noted for enjoying the greetings they received and the places of honor at banquets. Jesus rebuked them for that focus. But the disciples also got caught up in the focus on position. As they traveled on the road to Capernaum, the disciples had argued amongst themselves about who was the greatest. (Mark 9:33-34) Knowing this, Jesus pointed out the train of thought they needed.
We read. . .
“(35) And he sat down and called the twelve. And he said to them, “If anyone would be first, he must be last of all and servant of all.”” (Mark 9:35 ESV)
Sometimes we may need to back up the train to get back on the right track! The right station will be the one God elevates us to as we humble ourselves and allow Him to use us in glorious ways. May we retain a proper train of thought leading to the station of life God provides and in which He uses us to serve His Divine purposes!
Have a great day ON THE TRAIN THAT’S BOUND FOR GOD’S GLORY!
