We have seen the signs. “Now hiring! Apply Within!” Such encourages one in need of work to enter the establishment and apply for a position where they are then able to apply their abilities as an employee.
When it comes to work, a higher work is that which God desires to continue within us; transforming our life to become all He is able to equip us to become. For that work to take place there is the necessity of “applying within” in the sense of taking to heart the wisdom God has revealed through His Word.
In Proverbs we find the urging. . .
“(17) Incline your ear, and hear the words of the wise, and apply your heart to my knowledge,” (Proverbs 22:17 ESV)
And. . .
“(12) Apply your heart to instruction and your ear to words of knowledge.” (Proverbs 23:12 ESV)
God’s Word is intended to equip us for every good work. (2 Timothy 3:16-17) Duly applying His wisdom within will aid in preparing us to apply it in daily living. It is the wise builder who continues taking to heart His teaching and putting it into practice. (i.e. Matthew 7:24) May it remain so with us!
