What is behind our asking? Is it ever too much more about what we want than what we need or is best for us? What is it in our view toward God?
Key to prayer is asking. (Matthew 7:7; James 1:5) Key to prayer is asking in faith. (James 1:6) But another key to prayer relates to our attitude and desire. It has been said, “True prayer is asking God what He wants.” (William Barclay) Is that truly our greatest desire relative to God’s responsiveness to our prayerful requests? Is that what marks our attitude of faith in God’s provision?
John encouraged. . .
“(13) I write these things to you who believe in the name of the Son of God, that you may know that you have eternal life. (14) And this is the confidence that we have toward him, that if we ask anything according to his will he hears us. (15) And if we know that he hears us in whatever we ask, we know that we have the requests that we have asked of him.” (1 John 5:13-15 ESV)
Knowing God has given us His attentive ear, let us learn to pray with a heart declaring, “God, I want what You want!” Trust His ability and willingness to give us good things as we ask of Him. (Matthew 7:11) May our faith in God’s wisdom relative to every aspect of our life lead us to surrender more to trusting in His Sovereign Will to prevail on our behalf!
Have a great day DESIRING GOD’S WILL IN ALL THINGS!
