There are many things required of us in life. However, not all who require something do so on the same basis. Someone has said, “The master requires labor, the landlord requires rent, the captain requires fight, but God requires the heart.” [source: “1600 Squibs And Quips”, compiled by E. C. McKenzie]
The prophet Micah pointed out the basic requirement of God where we read. . .
“(8) He has told you, O man, what is good; and what does the Lord require of you but to do justice, and to love kindness, and to walk humbly with your God?” (Micah 6:8 ESV)
This is only possible through the retention of a right heart toward God and others. There is much which can be done — even to the satisfaction of others — without the heart being behind it. Outwardly we can meet those requirements without having to love the task. However, possessing the right heart provides power and steadfastness in the things we carry out.
May we keep in mind how basic a right heart is before God! When the heart is kept in proper spiritual condition, our conduct will be just, our disposition will be one of loving kindness (or mercy), and our walk will be in the humility that makes us most useful in the service of God. May our heart be wholly given to God and to the life He leads us to live!
Have a great day STRIVING TO MEET GOD’S REQUIREMENTS!
