There are relationships that are cherished and treasured. They have a specialness that just doesn’t seem to fade. Such is evident in the twinkle of the eyes as those in such a relationship gaze at each other. It is also revealed in the actions directed toward each other. In those relationships effort is made to ward off any cause of separation; viewing such as an awful possibility. Though at this point in life you may either be looking forward to a time when such a special relationship will be yours or are enjoying such with the love of your life now, is not this what should mark our relationship with God?
After God delivered the Israelites from Egyptian bondage and began leading them toward the promised land, He related the following to Moses on Mount Sinai for him to deliver to the nation. We read. . .
“(5) Now therefore, if you will indeed obey my voice and keep my covenant, you shall be my treasured possession among all peoples, for all the earth is mine; (6) and you shall be to me a kingdom of priests and a holy nation.’ These are the words that you shall speak to the people of Israel.” (Exodus 19:5-6 ESV)
How could God’s people ever wander from such a special relationship as that? However, how focused are we on maintaining our own proper relationship with God and His Will for our life? Is this still not the same desire of God for us today? Is He not continuing to reach out with the invitation, “Be Mine”?
Peter echoed God’s desire for us as Christians when he wrote. . .
“(9) But you are a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people for his own possession, that you may proclaim the excellencies of him who called you out of darkness into his marvelous light.” (1 Peter 2:9 ESV)
“Be Mine!” God’s “treasured possession”! God’s “chosen race”! “A people for his own possession”! That is what God desires! That is what has been made possible in Christ! May our eyes remain fixed on Him and His Will while the actions of our life proclaim His excellence. May we also acknowledge the awfulness of ever being separated from Him as we seek to daily live to please Him above all else!
Have a great day BEING A POSSESSION TREASURED BY GOD!
