All Christians have a responsibility – to keep the temple of God clean and pure. In 1 Corinthians 6:19-20 it says, “What? Know ye not that your body is the temple of the Holy Ghost which is in you, which ye have of God, and ye are not your own? For ye are bought with a price: therefore glorify God in your body, and in your spirit, which are God’s.” The Scripture says your body does not belong to you, it belongs to God. God bought it by giving His Son to die on the cross for the remission of our sins. He purchased us with Jesus. It also says God lives in you. It says also to glorify God in your body and in your spirit.
What God is saying here is “do not pollute the body.” When I say “polluting,” I’m talking about tattoos, drugs, drinking, and lots of body piercing. Put yourself in God’s shoes – would you like to live in a house filled with smoke and that smells like beer all the time? I don’t think you do. It is very important to keep the body clean for God. If you don’t, he may leave, just as you would do in a dirty, smelly house.
He also wishes us to remember to go to church and pray. That way you are glorifying God with your spirit. God gave His one and only Son to be killed. The least we can do is keep God’s temple clean. He made a big sacrifice; we can make a good, small sacrifice by sacrificing beer, drugs, and having our body covered in tattoos.
God did us a favor, so let’s do God a favor and keep His temple, your body, clean and pure.
