Solomon stated. . .
“(25) There is a way that seems right to a man, but its end is the way to death.” (Proverbs 16:25 ESV)
We referenced this passage earlier this year (February 25) and noted it is significant enough to bear repeating as it is also found earlier in Proverbs 14:12. It bears repeating because we live in a world where many are going about life their own way; based on their own aims and desires. With this as the general basis for living, there should be no surprise at the continued conflict of ideologies and personal choices around us. Human thinking does not always lead where one might think.
What must be continually given due acknowledgement is that the way of humanity is not within ourselves to solely direct our own steps. (Jeremiah 10:23) Since our thoughts alone are not sufficient for guiding our life, we need to look beyond ourselves. However, in doing so, we must be mindful of relying on the proper guide.
Just a few verses earlier in Proverbs 16 we read. . .
“(20) Whoever gives thought to the word will discover good, and blessed is he who trusts in the Lord.” (Proverbs 16:20 ESV)
There is the key; the willingness to look the Lord God — our Maker — for what is to be made of our life and its direction. Continuing to give thought to His Word is where we will discover the good guidance we need to lead us away from death (remembering it is sin which separates us from God) and into the life (presently and eternally) God desires and which has been prepared for us. Rather than leaning on our own understanding, our wholehearted trust is to be placed in God (Proverbs 3:5) and the wisdom of His Sovereign Will for our life. May we daily spend time in His Word, open to the discovery of the good guidance there! This will provide the good godly basis we need for life’s daily decisions and direction!
Have a great day DISCOVERING, ACCEPTING, AND APPLYING GOD’S GOOD WORD!
