Turning, tossing, and tears. Life’s trials and turmoil in the world around us can result in such as one tries to sleep at night. Sometimes it is hard to shut off the mind when so much is going through it or when things are kept bottled up inside. Even one of the psalmists noted the tears of day and night and their longing for God. (Psalm 42:3) Yes, such feelings should draw us to prayer.
In the midst of challenges, David wrote. . .
“(8) You have kept count of my tossings; put my tears in your bottle. Are they not in your book? (9) Then my enemies will turn back in the day when I call. This I know, that God is for me. (10) In God, whose word I praise, in the Lord, whose word I praise, (11) in God I trust; I shall not be afraid. What can man do to me?” (Psalm 56:8-11 ESV)
The eighth verse of this passage has long reminded me of my wife’s mother who kept a little bottle in the freezer. When the grandchildren would cry, she would catch their tear in it and put the bottle back in the freezer and so there was no need to continue crying. A tear was acknowledged and kept.
David knew God was aware of his struggles and his tears. God was not ignorant of the concerns of his life. Being aware of God’s awareness David kept his trust placed in God. May we learn to do the same and be at rest!
Have a great day TRUSTING THE ONE WHO NOTES OUR TRIALS!
Carl
