I remember from years ago the children’s song which in part went, “Be careful little hands what you do. Be careful little hands what you do. For the Father up above looks down in tender love. So be careful little hands what you do.” (It also focused on what the mouth would say, the ears would hear, the eyes would see, and where the feet would go.) Though sung by children, is there not an adult message there as well? What are we doing with our hands and the rest of our being?
In Jeremiah we read the rebuke of God toward the king and people of Judah. . .
“(6)Do not go after other gods to serve and worship them, or provoke me to anger with the work of your hands. Then I will do you no harm.’ (7) Yet you have not listened to me, declares the Lord, that you might provoke me to anger with the work of your hands to your own harm.” (Jeremiah 25:6-7 ESV)
Though Jeremiah had persistently spoken God’s message and warning to the people, and God had persistently sent His servants the prophets, the people had refused to listen. (Jeremiah 25:3-5) Rather than turning to God they had turned to idols; the work of their hands to their own harm.
To what are our ears being drawn and so what or how are we building in connection with our life? It begins with the willingness to listen as Jesus stated. . .
“(24) Everyone then who hears these words of mine and does them will be like a wise man who built his house on the rock. (25) And the rain fell, and the floods came, and the winds blew and beat on that house, but it did not fall, because it had been founded on the rock. (26) And everyone who hears these words of mine and does not do them will be like a foolish man who built his house on the sand. (27) And the rain fell, and the floods came, and the winds blew and beat against that house, and it fell, and great was the fall of it.” (Matthew 7:24-27 ESV)
Are we being careful and wise builders? Rather than building to our harm, are we listening and putting into practice the message of the Lord so that we can be building for our good? God has been persistent in making His truth known. May we remain persistent in taking it to heart and putting it to use in daily life!
Have a great day BUILDING FOR GOD’S GLORY AND OUR GOOD!
