How could we get anywhere without taking a step? How could we do anything without lifting a hand? How can we gain knowledge without spending some time focusing and studying? How can we change unhealthy habits without replacing them with better ones? As someone has said, “You cannot make progress in your life where you have taken no action.” (original source unknown) Life action is important. However, though the actions of our life are significant, what is their highest purpose?
Perhaps as you read the title for today’s focus your initial thought was I have the order wrong. The familiar phrasing is, “Lights! Camera! Action!” in the sense that with the stage lighting illuminating the scene, the focused camera can begin recording, and then the action to be captured begins. However, on life’s stage we need to be focused on the right things to enable living in a proper manner for being the lights we are intended to be.
As Jesus addressed preparedness and watchfulness of servants in relation to their master, He stated. . .
“(35) Stay dressed for action and keep your lamps burning,” (Luke 12:35 ESV)
Are we living prepared for action? Are we aiming at moving forward? To keep our life serving the Master as lights in this world (i.e. Matthew 5:14-16) we need to remain fueled for doing so. By properly engaging in daily activity and through effort of continued growth (we may need to do some wick trimming) in our life, our ability to shine the light of truth is enhanced!
We have been called to action that provides opportunity to shine! As Jesus exhorted. . .
“(16) In the same way, let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father who is in heaven.” (Matthew 5:16 ESV)
Let us focus, let us live, and let us shine to the glory of God!
Have a great day ILLUMINATING AS WE GO!
