Who may dwell with God? David noted the character of such as one. . .
“. . .who does not put out his money at interest. . .” (Psalm 15:5a ESV)
We seem to live in a world where many people give as long as there is something in it for themselves. If the deed can be reciprocated they will give. If there is a tax benefit, they will be charitable. If it will gain attention, the check will be written.
God, looking out for His people, established regulations under the Old Law regarding the charging of interest. (i.e. Exodus 22:25-27) As freely as God had provided, He wanted His people to provide when they had it to give and saw another in need. It was through such means God’s people would be provided for regardless of stature.
Jesus taught the principle is this way:
“(34) And if you lend to those from whom you expect to receive, what credit is that to you? Even sinners lend to sinners, to get back the same amount.” (Luke 6:34 ESV)
Jesus also taught against making a show of the giving. (Matthew 6:1-4)
God has blessed us so that we can be a blessing to others. And whatever we do in service to others and to the glory of God, will not go without its reward from Him — even if it is just a cup of cold water needed. (note Matthew 10:42) Those who know God and have received His blessings, have been called to a higher standard of conduct. May we have a willingness to give as freely as we have been given!
Have a great day SERVING OTHERS TO THE GLORY OF GOD!
Carl
