The disciples asked and Jesus answered. . .
“(1) At that time the disciples came to Jesus, saying, “Who is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven?” (2) And calling to him a child, he put him in the midst of them (3) and said, “Truly, I say to you, unless you turn and become like children, you will never enter the kingdom of heaven. (4) Whoever humbles himself like this child is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven.” (Matthew 18:1-4 ESV)
First, let us acknowledge there is a difference between being “childish” and “childlike”. There are those who may grow up and remain childish; whining and complaining about everything, throwing a fit when they do not get their way, stubbornly trying to do everything themselves, being impatient when wanting something now, etc. However, there are also those who grow up still humbly acknowledging they can’t solve everything themselves, are willing to step out and try, are accepting of the assistance of another, see patience is truly a virtue, and trust can still be had, etc.
It is the latter which is to mark our spiritual walk as we are growing up in Christ! As Jesus specifically noted the one who humbles themselves like a child, we are to grow in childlike trust toward God which includes the vulnerability to step out in faith as we strive to live life in a Christlike manner as we humbly surrender to the guidance from God we need. As a child would trustingly look to their parent for needed assistance, may we humbly keep our focus on our Heavenly Father as we continue growing in unwavering faith in and reliance on Him!
Have a great day TRUSTING IN EVER BEING GOD’S CHILD!
