Life is filled with many varied experiences and situations. Though we may experience challenges coming our way, there are also good things which do so. Aside from all we may meet along life’s journey, are we duly acknowledging and appreciating what God brings our way?
In Psalm 119 we read. . .
“(77) Let your mercy come to me, that I may live; for your law is my delight.” (Psalm 119:77 ESV)
Oh, the marvelous mercifulness of God! Despite Israel’s rebelliousness, when Moses was making the second tablets because He broke the first at the sight of the nation’s sin with the golden calf, the LORD God still acknowledged Himself as “a God merciful and gracious, slow to anger, and abounding in steadfast love and faithfulness”. (Exodus 34:6) As we delight in and embrace the truth of God’s Word and Will, are we encouraged by the fullness of hope His mercy brings?
I am in no less need of God’s mercy than the people of Moses’ day, nor are any of us since we have all sinned and fallen short of God’s glory. (Romans 3:23) Praise God He does not treat us as our sins deserve (Psalm 103:10), but “being rich in mercy” He has abundantly shared that treasure with us through Christ! (Ephesians 2:4-5) It is by His great mercy we have been saved. (Titus 3:5) Because God’s great mercy has come our way, we have been born again into a living hope by Christ’s resurrection from the dead to inherit that which will last eternally. (1 Peter 1:3-5) It doesn’t matter what we once were, but what and where we now are in Christ because we are the recipients of His mercy. (1 Peter 2:10) Because of God’s mercy we will not only live, but we will live eternally with the Lord!
The writer of Hebrews encouraged. . .
“(14) Since then we have a great high priest who has passed through the heavens, Jesus, the Son of God, let us hold fast our confession. (15) For we do not have a high priest who is unable to sympathize with our weaknesses, but one who in every respect has been tempted as we are, yet without sin. (16) Let us then with confidence draw near to the throne of grace, that we may receive mercy and find grace to help in time of need.” (Hebrews 4:14-16 ESV)
Because God’s mercy has come our way we can approach the throne of grace with confidence! Having come our way, mercy opened the pathway into the living hope that is ours in Christ. May that mercy continue moving us onward and upward toward the eternity our Lord went to prepare for us!
Have a great day MET BY MERCY TO MOVE ONWARD IN CHRIST!
