We look at life and formulate goals for the things we wish to accomplish. We look at ourselves and aspects of our being which may need to change for our personal betterment. However, life has its distractions and impediments which can keep us from living the best life possible if allowed to do so. Understanding Jesus referred to Himself as “the Life” (John 14:6) and as having come to give us life abundantly (John 10:10), what is keeping us from living the best life in Christ?
One thing to consider is what are we copying? As it has been noted “birds of a feather flock together”, what marks the company we keep? Whatever we surround ourselves with the most is what tends to influence the most. This is why Paul warned. . .
“(33) Do not be deceived: “Bad company ruins good morals.”” (1 Corinthians 15:33 ESV)
The New Living Translations reads: “bad company corrupts good character.”
Paul also urged. . .
“(2) Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect.” (Romans 12:2 ESV)
Rather than allowing the world to squeeze us into its mold, we are to remain open to God doing His transformative work from the inside out; renewing our mind according to His good, acceptable, and perfect will. Remaining in company with the truth of the Scriptures and spending time in the company of those of a godly spirit moves us that direction.
Writing to the church at Corinth Paul exhorted. . .
“(1) Be imitators of me, as I am of Christ.” (1 Corinthians 11:1 ESV)
Though Paul was mindful of the necessity of being a godly example for others, he still ultimately pointed the attention toward Christ. As we seek to continue growing in more Christlikeness, we will be living the best life in Christ!
Have a great day KEEPING LIFE IN THE COMPANY OF CHRISTLIKENESS!
