Yesterday we noted the proverbial statement that “Confession is good for the soul.” Oh, the relief we have in the blessing of forgiveness that is ours in Christ. However, there is another confession which is also good for the soul as it relates to eternal acknowledgment.
After noting our Heavenly Father’s awareness of each one of us (Matthew 10:28-31), Jesus went on to state. . .
“(32)So everyone who acknowledges me before men, I also will acknowledge before my Father who is in heaven, (33) but whoever denies me before men, I also will deny before my Father who is in heaven.” (Matthew 10:32-33 ESV)
The Greek word translated “acknowledges” and “acknowledge” is the same word used by John in 1 John 1:9 as noted yesterday. It is from “homologeo” which means “to confess, declare, admit.” [source: W.E. Vine’s Expository Dictionary of New Testament Words] As God is faithful and just to forgive our sins does it not also seem just that if we are willing to acknowledge the Lord before men (confess our belief in Him) we can expect His Willingness to acknowledge us? And does it not also seem just that if we deny Him, why should there be any expectation of being acknowledged by Him? This confession is also good for the soul because it relates to the eternity into which our soul is being drawn to be forever with the Lord. Therefore, may not only our lips, but also the way we live duly acknowledge the Sovereign Lordship of Jesus over our life!
Have a great day LIVING TO BE A CONFESSED CONFESSOR!
