Key to minding the mouth is minding the mind behind the mouth. Since it is from the meditations of the mind the words of the mouth arise, we must remain mindful of our thoughts being properly centered. Is this minding remaining the consideration of prayer?
In the nineteenth psalm, David noted the creation declaring the glory of God by doing what it was created to do! (vss.1-6) He then noted the glory of God’s commandment, law, precepts, rules, and testimony carrying out their intended purpose to those open to them. (vss.7-11) Then David’s focus turned to prayer for himself; for discernment regarding his own life condition with a desire to be led away from sin. (vss.12-13) Then he stated those words of which most of us are familiar where we read. . .
“(14) Let the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart be acceptable in your sight, O Lord, my rock and my redeemer.” (Psalm 19:14 ESV)
This was part of David’s earnest prayer! In the same light of any offering being given in a manner acceptable to God, his desire was for his life to be given in such a way and so he prayed with regard to the acceptableness of his words and thoughts in the sight of the Lord. He was well aware both that which was within him and what came from him were in full view of his God.
We may proudly proclaim our familiarity with this prayer of David, but are we humble enough to acknowledge our familiarity with the challenge? Understanding what we most meditate upon will impact the words of our mouth, may we share in David’s prayerful earnestness for it to be acceptable in the sight of God!
Have a great day MINDING THE MEDITATIONS THAT FEED THE MOUTH!
