We have noted the phrase “Could have, would have, should have.” as being one of regret. Having considered the could and the would, today let us consider the should in connection with Jesus!
Why did God send the Son? In a conversation with Nicodemus, Jesus Himself declared. . .
“(16) For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life.” (John 3:16 ESV)
God, through the giving of the Son, provided the opportunity and adequate means of eternal life! Therefore, in view of Christ we ought to be struck by how we should respond to such a gift as this. However, we live in a world where there is often the tendency to value the wrong things. For us to give someone a gift they had no appreciation for, how would that make us feel? How does it make God feel? Still, there is a time coming when what should be done now will be done, but regrettably too late.
In connection with Jesus’ willingness to humbly surrender to the plan of giving Himself on our behalf (Philippians 2:6-8), in view of His Sovereign position as Lord and Savior, Paul wrote. . .
“(9) Therefore God has highly exalted him and bestowed on him the name that is above every name, (10) so that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth, (11) and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.” (Philippians 2:9-11 ESV)
At the name of Jesus, every knee should bow! The Lord is presently enthroned on high, seated at the Father’s right hand. (Ephesians 1:20; Colossians 3:1; Hebrews 1:3 & 12:2) The day will come when all will come before Him (2 Corinthians 5:10), some prepared and some not. When the bowing is being done now, we will be able to approach that time in confidence rather than regret! Therefore, may our heart and life continue to humbly bow to the Lord’s Will as we press on to His glory and praise!
Have a great day LIVING WITH CONFIDENCE IN CHRIST!
