COUNTERING THE COUNTING!

July 21, 2023 by Carl Hanson

[07/21/2023 “teEn-MAIL”]

We can be overwhelmed by a sense of many things which seem to be against us and by many struggles we feel going on within ourselves. Feeling such around us and within us can cause us to feel there is no hope. However, in order to not be overcome by such, our focus must always turn away from the challengers in this world and the challenges from within us to the greater merciful power of God that is for us.

Consider David’s focus where we read. . .

“(11)As for you, O Lord, you will not restrain your mercy from me; your steadfast love and your faithfulness will ever preserve me! (12) For evils have encompassed me beyond number; my iniquities have overtaken me, and I cannot see; they are more than the hairs of my head; my heart fails me.” (Psalm 40:11-12 ESV)

David considered innumerable evils around him as well as innumerable sins of his own life. Such had an impact on his vision and weighed heavy on his heart. Perhaps part of that acknowledgement brings to mind Paul’s “Wretched man that I am!” (Romans 7:24) statement in view of the struggle of the flesh (Romans 7:14-23) and the need for deliverance. As Paul saw that deliverance and victory through Christ (Romans 7:25), David trusted in God’s steadfast love and faithfulness to ever preserve him.

Remember John’s encouragement where we read. . .

“(9) If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.” (1 John 1:9 ESV)

Neither David nor Paul claimed to be without sin and neither should we dare to make the claim. To do so would mean to be self-deceived and to make God a liar! (1 John 1:8 &10) Therefore, as real as the challenges around us might be and as real as the challenge of the flesh might be, let us never forget how real is the steadfast love and faithfulness of God. If He is for us it doesn’t matter who might be against us. (Romans 8:31) Therefore, despite the challengers around us and the challenges within us may we keep turning to Him as the One Who has the power to ever preserve us for the eternity to which He continues drawing us!

Have a great day COUNTING ON THE FAITHFULNESS OF GOD!

                        Carl

Our Mission

Truth For Teens was originally a publication with a circulation of over 500 to youth throughout the United States.  This was possible because a group of men and women felt a need to provide healthy, helpful information to our youth as they deal with daily situations.

That need has not changed. The Central church of Christ at Pflugerville, Texas has decided to oversee this continuing, important ministry with this website and publication of a regular newsletter available to all teens around the world. We want the truth of God to be available as the “truth for teens” as well!
