CULTURALLY CLOTHED!

July 18, 2024 by Carl Hanson

As we consider the way some dress, while there are those who may wear basic solid colors, there are others who choose to dress in bright colors. Sometimes the manner of dress and even the colors of it are a cultural reflection. When in India several years ago, though I saw many of the men wearing plain white shirts, I loved the vivid colors of the sarees and other clothing worn by many of the women. Hawaii is another place where there is much clothing worn by both men and women with vivid colors. And there are other places around the world where there is the contrast between the drab and the delightfully colorful.

Aside from the clothing of the body, what has become the cultural adornment of our life? Looking around us, we may be struck by the contrast between those whose life seems to be cloaked in an aura of sadness while others are adorned by sunshine radiating from a broad smile, bright eyes, and bounding step. Such tells us something about the disposition or focus on life. It has to do with attitude and perspective for living. Certainly, life has its ups and downs, but as Christians, what is being cultured by our life focus?

In one of David’s psalms, he wrote. . .

“(11) You have turned for me my mourning into dancing; you have loosed my sackcloth and clothed me with gladness, (12) that my glory may sing your praise and not be silent. O Lord my God, I will give thanks to you forever!” (Psalm 30:11-12 ESV)

According to the language used by David, his focus on God impacted both his feet and his face; was moved from mourning to dancing and from the gloom of sackcloth to gladness. As one might change clothes relative to particular activities in which they will be engaging or in accordance with an event they will attend, it is the attitude or focus of our mind that can determine the change in how our life is clothed. As we continue trusting in the God Who is for us (i.e. Romans 8:31), may the clothing of our life reflect a joy that has been cultured by our Christian faith!

Have a great day LIVING A FAITH FROCKED LIFE!

Our Mission

Truth For Teens was originally a publication with a circulation of over 500 to youth throughout the United States.  This was possible because a group of men and women felt a need to provide healthy, helpful information to our youth as they deal with daily situations.

That need has not changed. The Central church of Christ at Pflugerville, Texas has decided to oversee this continuing, important ministry with this website and publication of a regular newsletter available to all teens around the world. We want the truth of God to be available as the “truth for teens” as well!
