We are in a time of year when many are thinking about “spring cleaning”; doing a thorough cleaning of homes from top to bottom and sprucing up the yard in preparation for the enjoyment of warmer weather. How quickly dust collects in high places and clutter gathers during the more sedentary months of winter. However, as we consider this in relation to our homes, are we giving due consideration to the simplifying and decluttering of our life?
In his second letter to Timothy, Paul wrote. . .
“(20) Now in a great house there are not only vessels of gold and silver but also of wood and clay, some for honorable use, some for dishonorable. (21) Therefore, if anyone cleanses himself from what is dishonorable, he will be a vessel for honorable use, set apart as holy, useful to the master of the house, ready for every good work.” (2 Timothy 2:20-21 ESV)
So much becomes associated with us in the busyness of life. Some of those things are of more value than others. This being so, it is good to periodically take inventory of our life to see if there are some things (activities, attitudes, habits, thinking, etc.) which need to be gathered up and thrown out. Have we accumulated that which is beginning to hamper our usefulness to the Master of our life? As we assess our life, are we open to cleansing ourselves from anything dishonorable so we can truly be a vessel in the hands of God for honorable and holy use?
Even good things can get in the way of living well. Therefore, just as we recognize limited space in a home may require some prioritization as to what remains and what must go, so it is in relation to our life. In order to remain ready for the good works in which God desires us to engage, may we take inventory of our life and clear the clutter to be enabled to simply serve as He would have us!
Have a great day CLEANSED FOR SPRINGING INTO CHRISTIAN SERVICE!
