There are so many things in which we may delight and to which our desire is then drawn. However, are we delighting in what is best so that our desire is also for our utmost best in life?
In one of the psalms of David we read. . .
โ(4) Delight yourself in the Lord, and he will give you the desires of your heart.โ (Psalm 37:4 ESV)
I have heard some recite this passage to express that if they delight in the Lord, they can get whatever they want. However, if we truly delight in the Lord God, there is still the acknowledgment of His Sovereign Will and Wisdom. To delight in the Lord is to desire His provision of what is truly best for us. To delight in Him is to continually desire to experience the delight in His guidance and provision.
John encouragingly wrote. . .
โ(14) And this is the confidence that we have toward him, that if we ask anything according to his will he hears us. (15) And if we know that he hears us in whatever we ask, we know that we have the requests that we have asked of him.โ (1 John 5:14-15 ESV)
In looking to God in prayer, our desires are properly focused when asked in accordance with His Will. The happiness of receiving worldly desires is only for the moment. However, our greatest and most lasting happiness is in seeking the things of God! Therefore, may we continue to delight in Him and nurture a desire for all the goodness He desires to bring to us!
Have a great day DESIRING THE DESIRES OF GOD!
