In Luke’s account of Jesus’ illustration of the wise builder, we read. . .
“(47) Everyone who comes to me and hears my words and does them, I will show you what he is like: (48) he is like a man building a house, who dug deep and laid the foundation on the rock. And when a flood arose, the stream broke against that house and could not shake it, because it had been well built.” (Luke 6:47-48 ESV)
The well-building of such a life begins with its foundation. It is not a picture of just laying a foundation on ground that could be washed away, but digging into where it can solidly rest to then be built upon. It is a picture of digging deep and laying the foundation on that which is rock-solid. It is the truth of Jesus in which our life is to be duly rooted and established to be built up on. Not just a surface glance at Jesus or His teachings but digging in deeply so our faith and life may be firmly established. If we do not begin there, whatever we build will not stand the storms of life nor the test of time.
Our Lord’s assurance here is that the life properly resting and built in this way cannot be shaken. With Him, our life can be as well established as the unshakeable kingdom (Hebrews 12:28) into which He has brought us and over which He reigns. May we therefore continue digging deep that our life may rest securely on our Lord’s rock-solid Word and Will!
Have a great day REMAINING FIRMLY ESTABLISHED IN CHRIST!
Carl
