One of the biggest grammatical mistakes people make is when answering the question, “How are you doing?” Many people will answer, “good” when they meant “well”. “Well” refers to the degree of success or health. “Good” refers to the fact that you are “doing good things”.

Galatians 6:10 contains a command (not a suggestion) that as a Christian we are to do good works as we have opportunity to all but especially those of the household of faith. So we should do good to all but have special deference to fellow Christians. That is one of the hallmarks of being a Christian: helping each other and allowing others to help us. In Acts 2:44-47: “And all who believed were together and had all things in common. And they were selling their possessions and belongings and distributing the proceeds to all, as any had need. And day by day, attending the temple together and breaking bread in their homes, they received their food with glad and generous hearts, praising God and having favor with all the people. And the Lord added to their number day by day those who were being saved. (ESV)”
Giving of one’s self is one of the greatest sacrifices we can give and we will be rewarded for it if we are faithful: “And let us not grow weary of doing good, for in due season we will reap, if we do not give up. (Galatians 6:9, ESV)”
It is great to be well but it is good and better in God’s eyes to do “good works”!
