“Dumb!” Some people say that is what we are for believing in the Bible. However, though we must read with an understanding of the distinction between the Patriarchal, Mosaic, and Christian ages as recorded through the Scriptures, the Bible is not archaic as some claim, but ageless in providing the spiritual knowledge and Divine guidance we need. Every time I read the Bible and see how it all fits together my belief is increased all the more. However, due to a hardness of heart many just cannot see. Despite much learning there are even those who remain unable to come to a knowledge of the truth. (2 Timothy 3:7) Therefore, “D.U.M.B.” might be duly noted as representing Doubting, Unbelieving, Mocking, and Blind.
In his first letter to Christians at Corinth Paul wrote. . .
“(20) Where is the one who is wise? Where is the scribe? Where is the debater of this age? Has not God made foolish the wisdom of the world? (21) For since, in the wisdom of God, the world did not know God through wisdom, it pleased God through the folly of what we preach to save those who believe. (22) For Jews demand signs and Greeks seek wisdom, (23) but we preach Christ crucified, a stumbling block to Jews and folly to Gentiles, (24) but to those who are called, both Jews and Greeks, Christ the power of God and the wisdom of God.” (1 Corinthians 1:20-24 ESV)
We are not called to an understanding of the truth of God by the scholars of the world, but through the Gospel of Jesus. For us who believe, the Gospel remains the power of God for salvation. (Romans 1:16) The problem for many is a lack of openness to the truth of God and a perspective that is skewed by a worldly understanding. In acknowledgement of this, Paul went on to state. . .
“(14)The natural person does not accept the things of the Spirit of God, for they are folly to him, and he is not able to understand them because they are spiritually discerned. (15) The spiritual person judges all things, but is himself to be judged by no one. (16) “For who has understood the mind of the Lord so as to instruct him?” But we have the mind of Christ.” (1 Corinthians 2:14-16 ESV)
Do we want a life truly marked by scholarship? Do we want to be of those who are truly enlightened? Then let us — with a humble and open heart — continue looking to God for the spiritual discernment needed for growing in sharing the mind of Christ!
Have a great day BASING LIFE ON DIVINE SCHOLARSHIP!
