In Paul’s letter to Christians at Rome, he encouraged. . .
“(4) For whatever was written in former days was written for our instruction, that through endurance and through the encouragement of the Scriptures we might have hope.” (Romans 15:4 ESV)
As we look at the Scriptures from the record of the Creation through the provision of God for His people, we see clearly God’s ability to bring about, direct, and sustain life. However, all of this was done with a focus forward of more to come. In our inclusion of hope in Christ we are the recipients of the fulfillment of the Messianic promises. Therefore, as we accept the instruction and encouragement of all that has been preserved in the Scriptures, we can “have hope” because of God’s track record of past fulfillment on which to base our trust in His power to provide the fulfillment of all else He has planned for us presently and eternally. In consideration of the past, we can have confidence for the future!
As Paul noted later in this same chapter, that hope related to both Jews and Gentiles as fulfilled from prophecy. (Romans 15:8-12, cited from several Old Testament passages.) He went on to state. . .
“(13) May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, so that by the power of the Holy Spirit you may abound in hope.” (Romans 15:13 ESV)
The “God of hope” provides for us to be able to “abound in hope.” Because of that hope we can be presently filled with joy and peace as our faith continues to rest with Him! As we press on through the varying circumstances and situations of life in this realm, may we endure with an enduring hope in the God of hope!
Have a great day ENCOURAGED BY ABIDING HOPE IN GOD!
