David was noted by God as a man after His own heart. (1 Samuel 13:14; Acts 13:22) That did not mean he was without sin (as the Scriptures do record some grievous ones), but he possessed a heart willing to acknowledge his sin and accept the redirection and return needed. David possessed a heart that truly desired to do what was pleasing to God and was continually drawn toward Him. Because he had such a heart, it seems the worst thing David could imagine was being separated from God. (Psalm 51:11) That closeness was an abiding comfort for David. (i.e. Psalm 23:4)
David’s acknowledgment of living in the abiding presence of God was noted clearly where we read. . .
“(7) Where shall I go from your Spirit? Or where shall I flee from your presence? (8) If I ascend to heaven, you are there! If I make my bed in Sheol, you are there! (9) If I take the wings of the morning and dwell in the uttermost parts of the sea, (10) even there your hand shall lead me, and your right hand shall hold me. (11) If I say, “Surely the darkness shall cover me, and the light about me be night,” (12) even the darkness is not dark to you; the night is bright as the day, for darkness is as light with you.” (Psalm 139:7-12 ESV)
Yes, there, there, and even there! Are we also finding comfort in that reality of God? Someone has said, “God of all creation, help me to see You in all of life, that I may never know a moment without Your presence. Amen.” (calendar quote) That seems to reflect the desire of David. Let that reflect the sincere longing of our own heart as well! Walking on through life focused through the eye of faith, may we always see the abiding presence of God!
Have a great day NEVER LOSING SIGHT OF THE ABIDING ONE!
