Yesterday we noted the idea of being dressed for life; considering part of the spiritual wardrobe we are to wear as Christians. (Colossians 3:12) Thinking about new clothes, I sometimes remember when I was about to graduate from high school and my mother told me she was going to take me to get a new suit. Asking why I needed a new one (being content with what I had), my father responded that you get three new suits in your life: one when you graduate, one when you get married, and one when you die. Several years later when I became engaged and my father asked me why I did that, my response was, “I wanted a new suit.”
To this point in my life, I have actually had more than three new suits. Even now I have four wearable ones, so I don’t have to dress the same for preaching each Sunday. However, the reality with suits and other clothing is they wear out over time and need to be replaced.
As Christians, there is that with which we become clothed that wears on without being worn out. It is “ever wear” suitably clothing us for both life and death.
Writing to the church at Galatia, Paul stated. . .
“(27) For as many of you as were baptized into Christ have put on Christ.” (Galatians 3:27 ESV)
Being clothed in Christ we are suitably dressed for life now and for eternity as our life has become all about Him. Consider this in light of how Paul noted such a Christ connection in his letter to Christians at Rome.
We read. . .
“(7) For none of us lives to himself, and none of us dies to himself. (8) For if we live, we live to the Lord, and if we die, we die to the Lord. So then, whether we live or whether we die, we are the Lord’s.” (Romans 14:7-8 ESV)
Being clothed with the eternal Lord is how we are clothed for eternity. Regardless of what we are going through in life, may we glorify Him in the name we wear as Christians (1 Peter 4:16) as we trust in the eternal glory He is bringing us toward!
Have a great day LIVING AS ONE ETERNALLY CLOTHED IN CHRIST!
