Thinking is good because action without thinking can be dangerous. That might be called “under-thinking”. However, how we think is also important as it relates to our manner of living. How often do we “overthink” or over-analyze some things relative to our life.
When it comes to “overthinking”, Merriam-Webster.com notes: “Overthinking refers to thinking too much about something, often in a way that is not useful or even harmful. It can lead to excessive analysis, worry, and difficulty in making decisions.”
Someone else has defined “overthinking” as “The art of creating problems that don’t exist.”
How often have we overthought something to the point of creating anxiety and even fear over the “what if’s” that might never be?
In his second letter to Timothy, in view of his faith Paul urged. . .
“(5) I am reminded of your sincere faith, a faith that dwelt first in your grandmother Lois and your mother Eunice and now, I am sure, dwells in you as well. (6) For this reason I remind you to fan into flame the gift of God, which is in you through the laying on of my hands, (7) for God gave us a spirit not of fear but of power and love and self-control.” (2 Timothy 1:5-7 ESV)
Do we have a spirit of fear or of faith alive in us? The first comes from ourselves or the world and the other is from God. Where is our focus fixed? Let us neither underthink or overthink, but rather upper-think with a faith focus toward God as we trust His power to sustain us presently through life’s varied scenes and to bring us ultimately into His eternal glory!
Have a great day WITH FAITH FOCUSED UPWARD!
Carl
