How often have we been afraid because of what we were seeing while forgetting to look beyond it to what we did not see? When our eyes focus merely on ourselves or on what might be going on in the world around us, it is easy to become fearful. However, let us continue bearing in mind the reality there is more going on than meets the eye. As Paul pressed on in his ministry, he urged others to join him in focusing beyond the seen to the unseen; away from the temporary to the eternal. (2 Corinthians 4:16-18) This was faith’s focus which enabled him to not lose heart (2 Corinthians 4:16) despite what could be seen or was being experienced. (2 Corinthians 4:8-11) It is the faith (Hebrews 11:1) we have been called to develop to sustain us through our life’s journey on toward the eternity prepared for us.
While formulating his list of heroes and heroines of faith, this is what the writer of Hebrews noted about Moses where we read. . .
“(24) By faith Moses, when he was grown up, refused to be called the son of Pharaoh’s daughter, (25) choosing rather to be mistreated with the people of God than to enjoy the fleeting pleasures of sin. (26) He considered the reproach of Christ greater wealth than the treasures of Egypt, for he was looking to the reward. (27) By faith he left Egypt, not being afraid of the anger of the king, for he endured as seeing him who is invisible.” (Hebrews 11:24-27 ESV)
Though faced with the anger of Pharaoh and his stubborn refusal to acknowledge the hand of God at work through Moses, Moses kept his focus on God! In that faith was a journey onward with God with Egypt in his rearview mirror. Where our faith is focused will also determine how we will press on even in the face of the varied circumstances and scenes of life. May we keep looking ahead — trusting in the unseen working toward eternal ends on our behalf — so that we will live by faith instead of fear!
Have a great day WITH A FORWARD FOCUS OF FAITH!
