If we were to seek refuge from a storm, where would we go for shelter? Would we settle for an umbrella? Would we hunt for a cardboard box? Or would we look for a solid structure which could withstand the elements? Would we not want to find refuge behind sturdy walls and under a well-supported roof? However, when it comes to life, how many have placed their hope in the refuge of the flimsy philosophies of men or the whitewashed wisdom of the world. Some, having accepted as truth that which is not, have found themselves watching those ideologies crumble around and beneath them. There is nothing as stable as the truth.
In the Psalms we read. . .
“(114) You are my hiding place and my shield; I hope in your word.” (Psalm 119:114 ESV)
A good shelter is one which has stood the test of time. Can we find any refuge more stable than our eternal God? And since He is eternal, He will always exist to follow through on what He has spoken. Therefore, we can place our steadfast hope in His Word.
The writer of Hebrews — when encouraging Christians going through challenging times — noted the complete reliability of God since “it is impossible for God to lie.” (Hebrews 6:18) Truth is His nature. Therefore, the Hebrew writer encouraged that as we acknowledge the complete trustworthiness of God, “we who have fled for refuge might have strong encouragement to hold fast to the hope set before us.” (Hebrews 6:18 ESV)
May our life therefore remain resting on the foundation of God’s Word. Surrounding ourselves with His truth and abiding under it will provide the shelter we need in times of trouble as we trust God’s promise to see us through. There will be no shame in having placed our hope in Him. (Romans 5:5)
Have a great day TRUSTING THE LASTING SAFETY GOD PROVIDES!
Carl
