Notice what happened here:
· The government official was taught the gospel of Jesus
· He responded by asking to be baptized
· He confessed with all his heart that he believed Jesus was the Son of God
· He was baptized
It should be obvious that Philip taught more than what Isaiah 53 meant. He taught all the steps of salvation. If he did not, then why at the end of the study the official asked if he could be baptized? So, what was taught? While it is not said here, we can look at other scripture to figure this out. First, why is there a need for “saving” in the first place? Romans 6:23:
23 For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.
Do I need this gift of God which is salvation in Jesus? Romans 3:23:
23 for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God
Where will we go after we die on this earth? Matthew 25:46:
46 And these will go away into everlasting punishment, but the righteous into eternal life.”
So, here we have our two ultimate paths in this life. For our sins, we are heading to a place where there is eternal death (Hell). God provides another way to where we can have eternal life (Heaven) in His gift through what Jesus did if we will respond righteously as the Ethiopian eunuch did. It is OUR choice which road to take!
