Do I do what I do because I want to look good to you or to gain your respect? Or is the manner in which I go about my daily life because I love the Lord above all? What is it with you?
When Jesus was asked about the greatest commandment, He went immediately to the crux or heart of the law; that which was foundational for everything else in responding. . .
“(37) And he said to him, “You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind. (38) This is the great and first commandment. (39) And a second is like it: You shall love your neighbor as yourself. (40) On these two commandments depend all the Law and the Prophets.”” (Matthew 22:37-40 ESV)
Unless God has my heart, what does anything else matter? Foundational to the relationship is loving Him with every aspect of my being: heart, soul, and mind! Everything I do is to stem from my number one relationship with Him. Being God Who became flesh (Philippians 2:6-8), Jesus correctly directed this first love to Himself as well. (Matthew 10:37) It is then that the rest of my relationships and the purposeful life lived fall into their proper place. Loving God first and foremost is the foundation on which my life must rest. As He was the first to love (1 John 4:19) He ought to be the first to be loved! May God remain my number one relationship so that everything else relative to my life will be properly placed to His glory and praise!
Have a great day KEEPING GOD OUR FIRST LOVE!
