A golfer was trying to concentrate on getting the ball out of a sand-trap. What created the most difficulty for him was another golfer who kept talking away, finally commenting, “The traps on this course are quite annoying, aren’t they?” The first golfer responded, “Yes, would you mind closing yours?”
Do our words encourage or annoy? Do our words bring benefit or destroy? As the words flow from our mouth, we must be mindful of the impact they will have on those around us.
Solomon wrote. . .
“(11) The mouth of the righteous is a fountain of life, but the mouth of the wicked conceals violence.” (Proverbs 10:11 ESV)
For the wicked, it is like the floodgates open, leaving ruin in their wake; a torrent of words bringing destruction to the lives into and over which they flow. Even as water is good for a thirsty land, too much of it at one time can bring devastation. This can also be true of words when too much is said.
It is the righteous who pour out speech beneficial to those in its path. As a fountain can bring refreshment, so it is true with a few words of encouragement and genuine praise. Even the gentle words of guidance can be accepted as refreshing. Therefore, may the flow from our mouth be viewed not as a flood, but rather as a fountain of life!
Have a great day BRINGING REFRESHMENT TO OTHER’S LIVES!
