After having her actions referred to as being wasteful (Mark 14:4), Jesus turned to those who scolded her by calling her actions “beautiful” (Mark 14:6) and praising her for having done “what she could”. (Mark 14:8) Let us now consider the third complimentary statement Jesus made regarding her action of having poured the ointment over Him.
Again we read. . .
“(6) But Jesus said, “Leave her alone. Why do you trouble her? She has done a beautiful thing to me. (7) For you always have the poor with you, and whenever you want, you can do good for them. But you will not always have me. (8) She has done what she could; she has anointed my body beforehand for burial. (9) And truly, I say to you, wherever the gospel is proclaimed in the whole world, what she has done will be told in memory of her.”” (Mark 14:6-9 ESV)
Thirdly, Jesus drew attention to her actions as an example which would be told wherever the gospel would be proclaimed. The “memory” of her actions would remain alive. They would not be forgotten. In fact, here we are almost two thousand years later noting her actions again. That’s the way it is with actions that are exemplary. The remembrance of them seems to surface again and again. And even those actions which may not be remembered by many are never forgotten by God.
The Hebrew writer encouraged. . .
“(10) For God is not unjust so as to overlook your work and the love that you have shown for his name in serving the saints, as you still do. (11) And we desire each one of you to show the same earnestness to have the full assurance of hope until the end, (12) so that you may not be sluggish, but imitators of those who through faith and patience inherit the promises.” (Hebrews 6:10-12 ESV)
Whatever works we do in accordance with God’s Will, will not be forgotten or overlooked. God takes note of each one of them and we will receive the eternal reward He has promised. May we each continue to press on in works to His glory and praise!
Have a great day KNOWING THE ONE WHO ALWAYS NOTICES!
