Franklin D. Roosevelt (32nd president of the United States who lead the nation through some tough times; the Great Depression and World War II) is quoted as stating, “The only limit to our realization of tomorrow is our doubts of today.”
What marks our faith? Though there are things going on around us that could greatly discourage us, do we question hope for the future? Are we continuing to live today with trust in God that makes the present worth living? Are we thriving or merely surviving?
In the letter the prophet Jeremiah wrote to encourage those exiled in Babylon, he encouraged them to live out each day as not the end, but with a future in mind as they prayed for the welfare of the place where they presently were. (Jeremiah 29:5-7) He encouraged them that God would ultimately fulfill His promise for their return home (Jeremiah 29:10) and so they were to live in the present encouraged by that future hope.
In that message of hope from God was. . .
“(11) For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans for welfare and not for evil, to give you a future and a hope.” (Jeremiah 29:11 ESV)
Such should also mark our faith for today as we understand we are not home, but while in this realm there is life to be lived to God’s glory as we trust Him to ultimately bring us to our Heavenly Home.
Writing to Christians going through trying times, Peter encouraged. . .
“(3) Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ! According to his great mercy, he has caused us to be born again to a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, (4) to an inheritance that is imperishable, undefiled, and unfading, kept in heaven for you, (5) who by God’s power are being guarded through faith for a salvation ready to be revealed in the last time.” (1 Peter 1:3-5 ESV)
God’s plan: to give “us a future and a hope.” May we live today with a “living hope” trusting God for the tomorrow He brings!
Have a great day WITH A THRIVING FAITH IN THE GOD OF HOPE!
Carl
