For some, they feel like their “get up and go” has gone. They lack energy for living. They lack a zeal for pressing on. Perhaps such have even lost their sense of purpose. However, in view of the assurance of hope that is ours in Christ, are we continuing to be compelled by a persevering spirit for pressing on despite life’s challenges?
Key to success in life is having the courage and the will to get up one more time than we have fallen down. Regardless of what we face in life, there is the need for perseverance. The eternal hope that is ours in Christ is intended to continue compelling our forward motion. Even in the great trials experienced by Paul (i.e. 2 Corinthians 11:23-28) he viewed those things as light and momentary compared to the incomparable eternal weight of glory to come. (2 Corinthians 4:17-18) Therefore he continued straining toward what lay ahead; “the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus”! (Philippians 3:13-14) There is blessing in persevering.
In view of the hope of the resurrection, Paul urged those at Corinth. . .
“(58) Therefore, my beloved brothers, be steadfast, immovable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, knowing that in the Lord your labor is not in vain.” (1 Corinthians 15:58 ESV)
And James stated. . .
“(12) Blessed is the man who remains steadfast under trial, for when he has stood the test he will receive the crown of life, which God has promised to those who love him.” (James 1:12 ESV)
“Steadfast under trial.” Let us resolve to be! Not brought down to despair! Not discouraged! Not stopped! But continuing to persevere despite the challenges! What is to come will be worth it all! Therefore, may our life in Christ be marked by steadfastness with Him and immovableness from Him as we labor on — to His glory and praise — in the assurance of the eternal hope that is ours in Him!
Have a great day STAYING UP AND STRAINING FORWARD!
