What is at the root of God’s faithfulness? His great love! This was noted through Jeremiah at a time of Israel’s great unfaithfulness. Amidst this prophet’s warnings from God, hope was still extended because of God’s ultimate plan that would eventually come.
We read. . .
“(1) “At that time, declares the Lord, I will be the God of all the clans of Israel, and they shall be my people.” (2) Thus says the Lord: “The people who survived the sword found grace in the wilderness; when Israel sought for rest, (3) the Lord appeared to him from far away. I have loved you with an everlasting love; therefore I have continued my faithfulness to you.”” (Jeremiah 31:1-3 ESV)
Despite the nation’s unfaithfulness and so not deserving of the loving blessing of God, God’s love remained desiring the people to duly respond to it. God had made a covenant that would be fulfilled, and ultimately so through the coming Messiah; Jesus, the Christ. God had a plan He would graciously bring to fruition to which He remained faithful despite human unfaithfulness.
Yesterday in my personal morning reading, I read through Ephesians 2 with the above passage from Jeremiah already in my mind. I was then clearly reminded of the reality God’s great love has similarly provided us with a blessed hope we have not merited. Writing to Christians at Ephesus, Paul reminded them of that loving provision where we read. . .
“(4) But God, being rich in mercy, because of the great love with which he loved us, (5) even when we were dead in our trespasses, made us alive together with Christ — by grace you have been saved — (6) and raised us up with him and seated us with him in the heavenly places in Christ Jesus, (7) so that in the coming ages he might show the immeasurable riches of his grace in kindness toward us in Christ Jesus.” (Ephesians 2:4-7 ESV)
Oh, how great a love with which we have been loved! Oh, how great a faithfulness God has shown! Oh, how greatly we ought to be touched to also love Him and faithfully follow in the path of His blessed Will! May His loving faithfulness compel us to continue doing so!
Have a great day DULY RESPONDING TO GOD’S FAITHFUL LOVE!
