When we think of God’s Will, perhaps we first begin to think of His commands for our life; the things which are in line with His Divine plan and purpose. In our Lord’s model prayer Jesus included the expression. . .
“(10) Your kingdom come, your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven.” (Matthew 6:10 ESV)
Our desire as we live life on earth ought to not merely be our own will or the will of the earth (the world) to be done, but for Heaven’s Will to be enacted and walked in while in this earthly realm. Even as Jesus walked this earth — the Word that became flesh full of grace and truth (John 1:14), Who came from Heaven to earth and then returned above (Ephesians 4:9-10) — He made it abundantly clear it was the Divine Will He came to do. (i.e. John 4:34; 5:30; 8:28; 9:4) He also exemplified that in His prayer in the garden. (Matthew 26:39 & 42)
Heaven’s Will to be done on earth! Is that truly what we desire at all times and to occur everywhere and on behalf of everyone? Are we trusting that the workings of God’s Will will always be to our greatest benefit? Based on God’s Sovereign power and wisdom, are we continuing to acknowledge that in His Will we will be most blessed both now and eternally? Then let us remain open to seeking His Will and surrendering to following in it as we also strive to help others come to know it as well!
