Do some of the direction and happenings of this world leave a bad taste in our mouth? Do we wonder about the lack of good judgment as life choices around us are made? In spite of what others might choose, are we continuing to keep our focus centered on the wisdom from above rather than that of the world? (note that contrast in James 3:14-17) Is it our prayer to sincerely seek and accept the wisdom God is willing to provide? (James 1:5)
In psalm 119 the psalmist requested. . .
“(66) Teach me good judgment and knowledge, for I believe in your commandments.” (Psalm 119:66 ESV)
The Hebrew word translated “judgment” holds “taste” among its meanings. The choices of many in this world show a distaste for God’s Will and Wisdom and so it should not surprise us their actions also strike us distasteful. They are among those who want to put “bitter for sweet and sweet for bitter.” (Isaiah 5:20) However, by our good conduct based on living in accordance with God’s commands, God’s wisdom will be on display to reveal ourselves as wise and understanding. (James 3:13) Wisdom is justified or shown right in its actions. (Matthew 11:19) Therefore, let us sincerely ask God for His wisdom (James 1:5) so a godly good taste will be evident to glorify God in all we do and say. (note 1 Corinthians 10:31; Colossians 3:17; 1 Peter 4:11) Living with good judgment in following God’s Way in the sphere of Christ removes us from the sphere of His condemnation. (Romans 8:1) May we retain a taste for that goodness of God and so be compelled to live tastefully before Him!
Have a great day RETAINING A TASTE FOR THE WILL OF GOD!
Carl
