When Jesus ministered here on earth, He faced the evil of opposition. The devil tempted Him in an attempt to deter Him from the focus and manner of His mission. (Matthew 4:3-11) The Jewish leadership spoke against Him and threatened those who would put their faith in Him. (John 9:22; 12:42) Jesus was even threatened by the powers of the Roman government, but He pressed on in His works. (i.e. Luke 13:31-33) When Peter spoke to the household of Cornelius, he summed up the life of Jesus in stating. . .
“(38) how God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Spirit and with power. He went about doing good and healing all who were oppressed by the devil, for God was with him.” (Acts 10:38 ESV)
In spite of the evil directed against our Lord, He continued to do good. To walk in the steps of the Lord as His disciples, this should also mark the manner of our life. It is the very action Paul urged where we read. . .
“(21) Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good.” (Romans 12:21 ESV)
Do we want to be like Jesus? As we remain faithful to Him and His teaching, let us daily continue going about doing good regardless of the actions of others! The implication of Paul’s statement is that good has the power to overcome evil. May that power be at work in and through our life!
Have a great day WITH A GODLY FOCUS FOR DOING GOOD!
