Opinions can be divisive. Differing views can separate close friends and even family members. We especially see this in the arena of politics and religion. However — due to some not wanting to acknowledge absolutes or being unwilling to love the truth (note 2 Thessalonians 2:10) — truth can be divisive as well. So where do we seek to be united?
It has been said, “It is better to be divided by truth than to be united by error. It is better to speak the truth that hurts and then heals, than falsehood that comforts and then kills.” (Adrian Rogers)
Jesus — Who Himself is the truth (John 14:6) and came full of grace and truth (John 1:14) — noted the division that would take place even within households relative to those who would accept or those who would reject Him. (Matthew 10:34-37) There He even expressed. . .
“(36) And a person’s enemies will be those of his own household.” (Matthew 10:36 ESV)
It is Jesus and the truth that is to be loved more than anyone or anything else. (Matthew 10:37) Not the praise or glory of those around us. (i.e. John 12:43) Not the pathway of the majority since that does not always lead in the best direction. (note Matthew 7:13-14) Not settling for peace at any price. It is not about mere consensus or majority opinion to which we are to be united, but a seeking of unity with the mind and will of Christ.
Is it not better to have the world as our enemy than God? Are we seeking friendship with the world or with Him? (note James 4:4) It is by means of the blood of Christ that we have been delivered from God’s wrath. (Romans 5:9-10) Therefore, let us continue loving the truth and abiding in it, trusting in the assurance of nothing being able to separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus. (Romans 8:38-39) It is our Lord’s loving sacrifice that bridged the great divide that had existed between us and God! May our unity remain with the Lord and the truth of His Will!
Have a great day CHOOSING CHRIST AND THUS CHOOSING THE TRUTH!
