When there are severe weather conditions, airplanes may be grounded until the storm passes. Still, an overloaded plane can have difficulty picking up momentum and gaining enough lift to take off. Planes are made to fly, not sit on the ground. They were built to soar but what could restrict flight is not to be ignored.
We need to be grounded in the truth of God’s word so as to be able to firmly establish and build our life up on it. Grounded in the faith and in the acceptance of the Will of God, we are enabled to move forward and be lifted above the things of this world. (note Colossians 3:3-4) However, we need to be mindful of that which can ground us and hold us back. As someone has said, “If you want to fly, give up everything that weighs you down.” Are we duly considering such in relation to our life?
Solomon wrote. . .
“(25) Anxiety in a man’s heart weighs him down, but a good word makes him glad.” (Proverbs 12:25 ESV)
If anxiety is weighing us down, we need to take it to God in prayer and trust Him to lead us through whatever is challenging or concerning us. (note Matthew 6:25-34) The more we know Him and learn to rely on His good word, the more uplifted our focus and life will be. Grounded with a steadfast faith in God, even through life’s challenges and storms we can rise above them!
The writer of Hebrews also urged. . .
“(1) Therefore, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us also lay aside every weight, and sin which clings so closely, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us, (2) looking to Jesus, the founder and perfecter of our faith, who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is seated at the right hand of the throne of God.” (Hebrews 12:1-2 ESV)
If not turned from and left behind, sin will continue holding us back; keeping us bound to this world. Therefore, let us seriously consider what needs to be unloaded from our life and set aside that is hampering our forward and upward motion? It needs to be jettisoned. Let us not allow worldly cargo to hold us down!
As we acknowledge the Sovereign Will of God, let us humble ourselves before Him that He can do the exalting or lifting we need. (James 4:10; 1 Peter 5:6) Having been baptized into Christ, we have been raised to walk in a new life. (Romans 6:4) May we continue walking onward and upward in Him!
Have a great day LIVING THE UPLIFTED LIFE IN CHRIST!
Carl
