I remember the “multiple choice” test questions in school. Rather than just a question to be answered or a fill-in-the-blank statement, the choices presented helped jog the memory as to what was most likely. However, if the particular fact was not remembered, there were generally at least 4 options from which to choose with the hope of having picked the right one. That is why one teacher I had called them “multiple guess” questions.
As we go through life, we have choices. However, are we merely guessing, or are we focused on the right quest (pursuit) so as to make the proper choices relative to it? Though we might acknowledge life as being multiple choice, to leave life’s direction to multiple guess is not the way to pass through life. We need to look to God and what He has revealed through the Scriptures to properly guide us. (i.e. Psalm 119:105) And in doing so, we need to not consider His commands as multiple choice — picking only the ones we might like — but making our life quest to pursue the righteousness we have been brought to in Christ. (1 Corinthians 1:30; Philippians 3:9) Is our quest one of seeking to please Him or merely ourselves?
After noting what might be considered an experimentation on life, Solomon wisely concluded. . .
“(13) The end of the matter; all has been heard. Fear God and keep his commandments, for this is the whole duty of man. (14) For God will bring every deed into judgment, with every secret thing, whether good or evil.” (Ecclesiastes 12:13-14 ESV)
Therefore, as we consider our choices in life, let us — as Paul urged Timothy away from worldly pursuits — move forward in life’s quest as we read. . .
“(11) But as for you, O man of God, flee these things. Pursue righteousness, godliness, faith, love, steadfastness, gentleness.” (1 Timothy 6:11 ESV)
Such is a life quest seeking the things above (Colossians 3:1) as we are continually drawn toward the eternity our Lord went to prepare for those who are His! May our life journey not be left to multiple guess, but instead remain marked by the assurance of faith in the One Who is the answer to our greatest need; salvation from our sins and renewal of the holy essence we were created to possess!
Have a great day KNOWING LIFE’S ANSWERS IN CHRIST!
