How are we feeling about life? Does our focus give rise to butterflies in the stomach? Are we feeling a bit pukey? Sometimes when we don’t feel good about life, we can get a sick feeling in our gut. Then there are times when we are in a situation where our gut feeling is that something just isn’t right. Gut feelings can be an accurate indicator that something is wrong. What is needed at such times is an honest look at how we are focusing on life and what we are doing in it? What direction are we being drawn? In what kind of activities are we engaging? What marks our manner of living in light of what God desires?
In addressing things that can overcome a life, Peter wrote. . .
“(20) For if, after they have escaped the defilements of the world through the knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, they are again entangled in them and overcome, the last state has become worse for them than the first. (21) For it would have been better for them never to have known the way of righteousness than after knowing it to turn back from the holy commandment delivered to them. (22) What the true proverb says has happened to them: “The dog returns to its own vomit, and the sow, after washing herself, returns to wallow in the mire.”” (2 Peter 2:20-22 ESV)
Not a pretty picture. It is the picture of a sick life! There are things of life that can overcome us to our detriment if we do not continue surrendering to Christ through Whom we can become overcomers.
David noted his own experience of the turmoil within and the solution he found where we read. . .
“ (3) For when I kept silent, my bones wasted away through my groaning all day long. (4) For day and night your hand was heavy upon me; my strength was dried up as by the heat of summer. [Selah] (5) I acknowledged my sin to you, and I did not cover my iniquity; I said, “I will confess my transgressions to the Lord,” and you forgave the iniquity of my sin. [Selah]” (Psalm 32:3-5 ESV)
As David came to understand, confession is good for the soul. Confessing what is wrong in our life and knowing the forgiveness we can receive can bring soothing comfort within. When our gut tells us something is wrong, may we accept it as a blessing enabling us to acknowledge it and be turned back toward God to receive the spiritual healing we need!
Have a great day EXPERIENCE THE HEALING GOD PROVIDES!
